Country Sporting available locally include: coarse and game fishing, game bird shooting, stalking, walked up days, driven days, rough days, and hunting to hounds.  Balmoral-bordering Invercauld Estate offers some of the best opportunities for country sports that you will find anywhere in Scotland. Most of our sport here is offered to parties as a weekly package of walked up grouse shooting, open moorland stag stalking and river salmon fishing.

Invercauld Estate's four beats offer different degrees of stalking, some relatively easy in forest or woodland and some very challenging out on the open hill side on difficult terrain. All parties are accompanied by experienced game keepers and stalkers. On some beats the stags are brought home from the hill on a garron or stalking pony. This is a marvelous and very traditional sight and a fitting end to the days sport.

Contact the Estate for up-to-date stock estimates and season information. Single day stalking and walked up days are limited and must be requested well in advance.

Grouse (mostly driven, with occasional walked up days) - mid August to the end of October

Red Deer: (stalking is generally let by the week, with single days occasionally available)

Stags - August first to the October 20        Hinds - October 21 to 15th February

Also inquire about roe deer, ptarmigan and the pheasant shoot available on Invercauld Castle's home beat.

Invercauld Estate participates in the Hillphone System which was set up several years ago to inform walkers in the area of any stalking activities and when and where these would be taking place. Recorded messages are left on telephones for three of Invercauld's four beats, and these indicate the routes which will / may be affected by stalking. Further information found on our 'Walking' pages.

The Estate offers first class salmon and sea trout fishing opportunities on the Crathie and Private Water of the River Dee, opposite Balmoral. The River flows through the ancient Caledonian Pine Forests, offering spectacular views of the forest and mountains and a good chance of seeing red and roe deer, red squirrels, otters, and osprey.

Invercauld also has two lovely hill lochs to fish for wild brown trout. Set in the most breath taking scenery, our remote lochs are well worth the effort in getting there.

In all there is in the region 10 miles of fishing, with many named pools, of which at any time at least 30 can be fished. Fishing weeks may be available from March through until the end of September.

Daily, weekly and season tickets are available. The fee for fishing weeks include the services of an experienced ghillie.  Day fishing arrangements are available until the end of September and a ghillie is available. Equipment and instruction can also be provided.

The River operates a catch and release policy as part of an important package of conservation measures to improve the bio-diversity of the river system. Weekly tenants are offered up to 2 sides of smoked salmon per rod for returned fish.
